Guinness World Record set in the streets of Ljubljana
Today the streets of Ljubljana and 54 other cities across Europe turned into ballrooms for thousands of high school students, who celebrated their graduation by setting a new Guinness World Record at the Graduation Quadrille Dance Parade. Until eleven o’clock 8964 dancers were registered in Ljubljana which is 2876 more than last year.
It is a tradition that Slovenian students graduating from high school dance a quadrille dance at their prom. Next to successfully finishing their high-school education and coming of age this presents another aspect of stepping into the world of mature adults.
In 2001 a dance teacher Tomaž Ambrož upgraded this tradition by uniting 3.128 high-school students to simultaneously quadrille dance at the streets of Ljubljana. Each year a number of dancers increased as dance locations were added. In 2006 the Graduation Parade became part of European Quadrille Dance Festival, which in 2008 managed to unite 53.568 students dancing in 50 cities across Europe.
